Cybersecurity Student | Passionate about Digital Safety, Data Privacy & Sociotechnical Theory | Advocate for Inclusive & Accessible Tech Spaces | Forever Learner
My name is Joelle Waugh, and I am a student at Fleming College studying Computer Security and Investigations. I'm passionate about making technology and physical spaces safer and accessible for everyone, especially with emerging Artifical Intelligence(AI)technologies.
Studying cybersecurity has allowed me to explore my passion for understanding how technology has influenced society transnationally and globally. Technology is advancing societies and creating new societal challenges that require innovative cybersecurity solutions adaptable to ever-changing technologies.
I love to learn, solve problems, and take on new challenges. I am inquisitive, adaptable, conscientious, empathetic, a critical thinker, collaborative, detail-oriented, and resilient. I value hard work, integrity, communication, strong leadership, problem-solving skills, collaboration and teamwork, skill development, empathy, and accountability.
As a student, I am currently looking for an internship to practice the skills that I have learned. I am interested in working as a SOC analyst, Penetration Tester, Cybersecurity Awareness, Access and Privacy analyst, Cybersecurity Consultant, Security Risk and Compliance, Security Operation and Data Analytics.
I believe cybersecurity is essential to our collective experience with technology and the online world.
The internet has made our globalized world more transnational, with more access comes significant security needs, as more threat actors exist.
Cybersecurity has become the backbone of companies’, organizations’, and governments' success in securing people's data.
Cybersecurity helps companies survive and weather attacks. It involves people as much as it involves technical skills. People are the primary target for threat actors.
Cybersecurity is about protecting individuals’ data and identity transnationally. The Internet has created a world where people no longer need a passport to access content, data, or each other, making us more connected than ever, consequently making us vulnerable. Cybersecurity is not only a technical role but also involves solving physical and social security problems. Overall, cybersecurity is the glue that maintains the social contract of privacy and integrity. Cybersecurity protects data, empowers people, and creates a safer online world. I believe humans are the wall of defence in protecting our data online.
My work experience is a dynamic mixture of skills and experiences. I have worked as an Adult English language teacher, in Human Resources as a recruiter, as a Customer Service agent, and in Leadership roles.
I have developed a variety of skills and expertise that are beneficial to my career in Cybersecurity. My skills, coupled with a career in cybersecurity, will bring unique perspectives, such as adult education, which can help in cybersecurity training to communicate complex concepts.
Adult English language teaching experience ideal for Cybersecurity awareness.
Recruitment experience with understanding of onboarding and security protocols.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail for threat identification.
